ActionPiXX Image

ActionPiXX

ActionPixx is a simple WebServer for displaying photos to ActionTiles.

You can request specific photos or you can request "random.jpg" and it will display a random photo from the photo directory.

You can also define different photo directorys for each device. The wife can have wedding and vacation photos, the garage tablet can show car show photos and hunting photos and the kids can have their own photos as well. This is all done by device IP address so your "photo slideshow" tile in ActionTiles will have the same address. When a request comes in from the Kitchen Tablet, if there is a defined photo directory it will show a photo from that directory otherwise it will show a photo from the default directory.

There's no installation program, just copy the Application file to a directory of your choice and you're ready to go. The program runs locally on a Windows machine (sorry no Apple version) in your house so there's no accounts to log into, no setting permissions on photo sharing sites, it's all local to your machine and network..

Installation:

The Machine running ActionPiXX should have a Static IP address so the web URL doesn't change.

1) Unzip ActionPiXX to a directory of your choice. For example: C:\ActionPiXX

2) Create a PiXX directory within the above directory. (This directory will be created for you the first time the program is ran) (This will be the default photos directory)

3) Copy some photos into the directory created in Step 2

4) Run ActionPiXX

5) Add an ActionTiles Media Tile to your ActionTiles layout pointing to the IP address of ActionPiXX URL. Example: http://192.168.1.24/random.jpg

Custom Photo Directorys for different tablets - Optional:

A) Create additional Photo Directories within the directory in step 1

B) Add photos to those additional photo directories

C) Edit a text file called "CustomDirs.txt" and add the IP address of the tablets and the directory for their photos. Note: Tablets should have a Static IP address so their IP address doesn't change over time. The format for the file is IP Address comma directory name with no spaces. See the example below.

*** WARNING *** Image files have been changed to a .png extension for better image quality. Please update your "Drive Time" panels and your "Ping Device" panel to .png files. - This has no effect on photos served. Continue to use random.jpg for random photos. Pingdev2.jpg and pingdev3.jpg are no longer valid as all ping devices have been consolidated to a single panel (pingdev1.png) to save screen real estate.

Custom Directories: If you want custom photo directories for different tablets make sure the tablets have static IP addressess. This can usually be set in your Router under Reserved DHCP addresses. Once the tablets have static addresses you can add them to the CustomDirs.txt file in the format of ClientIP,PhotoDirectory

Clients that don't have an entry will be served photos from the default PiXX photo directory.

192.168.1.22,kitchen
192.168.1.40,mypics
192.168.1.37,kidspics

Custom Port Number. Create a text file called portnumber.txt in the directory you created in step 1 above and type the port number in the text file, nothing more, nothing less and save it. The default port is port 80. If there is a problem with the portnumber.txt file or there is no portnumber.txt file it will default to port 80.

8080

Text Message Tiles:

You can create a Text Message Tile by going to the URL of the application and adding /!MSG= and then a message. A textmessage.png photo tile will be created with the message.

http://192.168.1.77/!MSG=Take out the trash and feed the dog

To clear the Text Message Tile just send a blank message.

http://192.168.1.77/!MSG=

I don't really have a use case for this feature other than using it as a post-it note.
